SYNOPSIOS

Synopsis

When federal agents raided Jeffrey Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse in 2019, the world was stunned to discover a surreal painting hanging in the hallway: Bill Clinton in a blue dress, lounging provocatively. The image went viral — splashed across headlines, talk shows, and social media feeds.

But few knew the man in the painting.

His name was Christophe Nayel.

More than just a French art model, Christophe was a beloved artist who inspired generations of painters, sculptors, and photographers at institutions like the New York Academy of Art and The Art Students League of New York. He worked behind the scenes at the Metropolitan Opera, created a catalog of original Euro-pop music, and was known for holding a facial pose longer than anyone — a trait admired by faculty and students alike.

He lit up rooms with humor, elegance, and a wild, unapologetic spirit. Behind the viral image was a man of real substance — tender, brilliant, and fiercely original.

This film, CHRISTOPHE: I AM FRENCH, tells the story behind the headline. It’s a love letter to the man who posed, who sang, who lived boldly — and who left us too soon in October 2020.

Told through archival footage, intimate interviews, and a soundtrack featuring Christophe’s own music, this short documentary celebrates the life of a queer icon who was never meant to be a footnote in someone else’s scandal.

My name is Michael Huhn — I’m Christophe’s husband. As an international photographic artist and filmmaker, I’ve spent my life telling visual stories. This is the most personal one I’ve ever made.
